Knitted Bath Mitt (1)

Hey, crafters! It’s time for another crafternoon. Self-care is more fun with this week’s project: knitted bath mitt! This pattern from Yarnspiration is fun and easy to create. With so many color possibilities, your can customize a pair to pamper yourself or to give as a gift to your loved ones! Join us, and dare your mind to create!

Materials you’ll need:

  • Yarn (1 ball of 120 yards, size 4 or 6)

  • Knitting needle (US size 9 or 5.5mm)

  • Scissors

  • Tapestry needle

Abbreviations:

  • Alt = Alternate(ing)

  • Approx= Approximately

  • Cont = Continue(ity)

  • Ch(s) = Chain(s)

  • Inc = Increase(ing)

  • Kfb = Increase 1 stitch by knitting into front and back of next stitch

  • K = Knit

  • K2tog = Knit 2 stitches together

  • RS = Right side St(s) = Stitch(es)

Gauge: 15 sts and 28 rows = 4″ [10 cm] in garter st.

Instructions:

Cast on 36 sts. Work 9 rows garter st (knit every row) noting that first row is wrong side.

SHAPE THUMB:

  • 1st row: (RS). K16. Kfb in each of next 2 sts. Knit to end of row. Knit 3 rows even.

  • 5th row: K16. Kfb in next st. K2. Kfb in next st. Knit to end of row. Knit 3 rows even.

  • 9th row: K16. Kfb in next st. K4. Kfb in next st. Knit to end of row. Knit 3 rows even. Cont in this manner, inc 2 sts on next and following 4th rows until there are 48 sts. Knit 1 row even.

  • Next row – K29. Turn. Cast on 1 st. K14 (including st on needle after cast on). Turn. Cont on these 14 sts for thumb. Knit 10 rows even.

  • Next row – *K1. K2tog. Rep from * to last 2 sts. K2. 10 sts. Knit 1 row even.

  • Next row – (K2tog) 5 times. 5 sts. Break yarn leaving a long end. Thread through rem sts. Draw up tightly and fasten securely. Sew thumb seam. With RS of Mitt facing, join yarn to rem sts. Pick up and knit 2 sts under thumb. Knit to end of row.

  • Next row – Knit, knitting tog the 2 sts picked up under thumb. 36 sts. Knit 16 rows even.

SHAPE TOP:

  • 1st row: K1. ssk. K12. K2tog. K2. ssk. K12. K2tog. K1. 32 sts.

  • 2nd and alt rows: Knit.

  • 3rd row: K1. ssk. K10. K2tog. K2. ssk. K10. K2tog. K1. 28 sts.

  • 5th row: K1. ssk. K8. K2tog. K2. ssk. K8. K2tog. K1. 24 sts.

  • 7th row: K1. ssk. K6. K2tog. K2. ssk. K6. K2tog. K1. 20 sts.

  • 9th row: K1. ssk. K4. K2tog. K2. ssk. K4. K2tog. K1. 16 sts.

  • 11th row: (K2tog) 8 times. 8 sts. Break yarn, leaving a long end. Thread through rem sts. Draw up tightly and fasten securely. Sew side seam.

HANGING LOOP:

With crochet hook, make a chain 2½” [6 cm] long. Fasten off. Sew in position at top of side seam as illustrated.
