DMC Weekend Crafternoon: Crocheted Amigurumi Ball

Hi there, crafters! For this week’s lesson, we’re going to go a little over the basics of crocheting and form shapes. If you’ve already gone over the popular stitches in crocheting, here’s a good project to do to improve your crocheting skills — Amigurumi ball!

We’re sure you’ve seen the cool and cute crocheted stuffed toys all over the internet. You can do that, too! But first, we have to learn the basics into forming a shape.

Grab your hooks and your yarns, and let’s get crafty!

Materials

Knitty Pop

Crochet Hook 3.0-3.5mm

Scissors

Stuffing

Yarn Needle

Stitch Marker

Instructions:

Round 1

Work 3 chain stitches

Connect your 3rd chain to the 1st chain

Work 9 single crochet from the middle

Round 2

Work 2 single crochet in each stitch

You should have 18 stitches

Round 3

Work 1 single crochet in each stitch

You should have 18 stitches

Round 4

Attach a stitch marker on the last stitch

Work 1 single crochet on the 1st and 2nd stitches

Work 2 single crochets on the 3rd stitch (2 single crochet in 1 stitch is called an increase)

Repeat Step 1 & 2

You should have 24 stitches

Round 5

Work 1 single crochet on the first 3 stitches

Work 2 single crochets on the 4th stitch

Repeat Step 1 & 2

You should have 30 stitches

Round 6

Work 1 single crochet on the first 4 stitches

Work 2 single crochets on the 5th stitch

Repeat Step 1 & 2

You should have 36 stitches

Round 7-12

Work 1 single crochet on all 36 stitches

Round 13

Work 1 single crochet on the first 4 stitches

Insert hook into the 5th stitch and pull the yarn over

Insert hook into the 6th stitch and pull the yarn over

You should have 3 loops on your hook

Wrap your yarn on the hook and pull through

Repeat step 1-4 until round completed

Stitching

Before completing the ball, take your yarn needle and sew the excess yarn from the beginning

Round 14

Work 1 single crochet on the first 3 stitches

Insert hook into the 4th stitch and pull the yarn over

Insert hook into the 5th stitch and pull the yarn over

Wrap your yarn on the hook and pull through

Repeat step 1-4 until round completed

You should have 24 stitches

Round 15

Work 1 single crochet on the first 2 stitches

Insert hook into the 3rd stitch and pull the yarn over

Insert hook into the 4th stitch and pull the yarn over

Wrap your yarn on the hook and pull through

Repeat step 1-4 until round completed

You should have 18 stitches

Filling

Insert your stuffing to fill the amigurumi ball

Round 16

Work 1 single crochet in each stitch

You should have 18 stitches

Round 17

Work a slip stitch on the 1st stitch

Skip the 2nd stitch

Work a slip stitch on the 3rd stitch

Repeat steps 1-3 until the ball shuts
